Las Vegas Monorail introduces technology, resorts partnerships and customizable options

Facilitating safe, convenient and economical transit along the Las Vegas Strip since 2004, the Las Vegas Monorail recently introduced new technology, partnerships and other customizable options to improve customer service in ways geared for both leisure and business travelers.

The first one provides a technological convenience for anybody with a smartphone: mobile ticketing is now available for Android users via Google Pay using the embedded NFC technology in every Android phone, becoming the world’s first system to fully integrate its ticketing system with the popular Google app; and Apple iPhone users can now drop their electronic tickets into their Apple wallet and use the Monorail’s Scan-and-Go technology.

Meanwhile, the Monorail offers fare integration technology specifically for convention and tradeshow attendees. By partnering with event organizers, the Monorail can load fares directly onto delegates’ registration badges. At the fare gates, all these attendees have to do is scan their badge and ride.

Another perk for travelers and a welcome benefit of the resort amenity fee for customers at the Renaissance Hotel. The Renaissance has partnered with the Monorail to incorporate tickets into guests’ resort fees. Upon check-in at the hotel, which is adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center Monorail station, leisure guests* receive two single ride tickets to use at their convenience during their stay.

While the Monorail is a valuable part of the area’s transit network year-round, during certain landmark occasions—it’s the only option for traversing the Strip. For two extraordinary events every year, Las Vegas Boulevard is shut down to vehicular traffic completely: on one Saturday night in late fall for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and ½ Marathon, and once on New Year’s Eve. The energy, exuberance and sheer adrenaline coursing through the throngs of exhilarated riders on these special dates bring a festival atmosphere to the Monorail’s trains and stations.

The Las Vegas Monorail provides yet another advantage, as well: it’s a transit system that has minimal impact on the environment. Each year, as a result of the number of visitors carried on its zero-emissions, driverless train system, it eliminates an estimated 2.1 million vehicle miles from Southern Nevada’s roadways, reducing emissions by more than 27 tons of carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides over the course of the year.

With 15 years of service in the rear-view and a swiftly evolving Las Vegas landscape ahead, the Monorail is genuinely excited to evolve, too. We look forward to innovating along with our community and bringing new and welcome enhancements to our region’s bustling tourism economy.
