Founded in 1923 as a private, nonprofit corporation, the Museum of the City of New York celebrates and interprets the city, educating the public about its distinctive character, especially its heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation.

The Museum connects the past, present, and future of New York City, and serves the people of the city as well as visitors from around the world through exhibitions, school and public programs, publications, and collections.
The Museum currently has 5 dynamic exhibitions on display, allowing visitors to learn about Green-Wood Cemetery's illustrious "permanent residents" in A Beautiful Way to Go: New York's Green-Wood Cemetery
exhibition; and discover design solutions to accommodate New York City's changing demographics with Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers
. Other exhibition highlights include: Timescapes: A Multimedia Portrait of New York,
a 22-minute video tracing the growth of New York City; Activist New York
, which explores the history of the city's activist roots; and Marine Paintings
from the Collection of the Museum of the City of New York.
The Museum offers a number of FIT and group-friendly programs such as the recently launched "From Culture to Cuisine"
Commissionable Package that includes a behind-the-scenes tour of either the theater or costume collection, a B'way
show and lunch or dinner at the world-famous National Arts Club, a private club. The Museum also offers a number of group tour options, unique space for receptions and FIT commissionable packages.
While at the Museum, guests can also peruse the Museum Shop
for an assortment of gifts, jewelry, books, prints, and a wide selection of New York themed gifts. Guests visiting with children that are 6 years-old and up can check out one of the free family programs that are regularly offered and include a light snack. For those visitors who want to broaden their perspective even further, the Museum's public programs, whose themes are tied to the current exhibitions, host experts on a slew of different topics.
The Museum of the City of New York is located at 1220 Fifth Avenue (between 103rd and 104th Streets), New York, NY. The Museum is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm.
