The Maid of the Mist departs daily from Niagara Falls State Park and takes passengers to the base of the Horseshoe Falls.

The first Maid of the Mist, a side-wheel steamboat ferry with twin smokestacks was christened in 1846. Entrepreneurs hoped to profit by transporting people, luggage, mail and cargo. In 1848, the Maid of the Mist was rebranded as a sightseeing adventure.

Today, Maid of the Mist passengers don their complimentary poncho and soak up historical and natural amazement on the Maid of the Mist. This 30-minute boat ride creates long-lasting memories as families, friends and couples experience the roar of Niagara Falls, up close and powerful.

Numerous off-season modifications were made to the vessels and facilities this winter. Among them include new upper and lower gangways, which will allow for more efficient passenger loading and unloading. They also will permit the Maid of the Mist to operate longer hours on holidays, and possibly beyond the October 31 season-ending date.

Visitors can use a new elevator on the floating dock for main deck access during operating hours, when levels on the Niagara River are low.

In addition, a new, environmentally-friendly engine was installed on the Maid of the Mist VI, as well as navigational upgrades and new deck lighting.
